Sanford-Springvale Historical Society will open a new exhibit featuring watercolors painted by local artist, Bob Arsenault, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in conjunction with the Society’s Annual Meeting at 5:00 PM. The exhibit will open at 5:30 PM after a short Historical Society business meeting at the Museum. Bob’s daughter, Michelle McCarthy, will speak about her father and his work, and a reception will follow. All are cordially invited.
OVERVIEW
Bob was a very talented and prolific artist who only began painting after he retired. He painted thousands of works of public buildings, homes, landscapes, animals, and other assorted subjects. Most of his watercolors were of local landmarks in Sanford and a few from surrounding communities. He sold many of his paintings but also gave some away to friends and acquaintances. A number of real estate brokers in town had a close relationship with Bob, and many of his paintings were given as gifts to sellers to remember their homes.
